Abstract painter Frankenthaler dies

The American abstract painter Helen Frankenthaler died in Connecticut on Tuesday, aged 83.

Her "soak stain" technique, inspired by Jackson Pollock and achieved by pouring thinned paint on to canvas, is credited with breathing new life into the post-Second World War Expressionist movement.
