Actor rowan Atkinson left hospital in a wheelchair yesterday after crashing his high-performance sports car.

The 56-year-old Blackadder and Mr Bean star was driving his McLaren F1 supercar in Haddon, Cambridgeshire, when it spun around several times, hit a tree and a lamp post and caught fire.

The actor and car enthusiast is believed to have injured his shoulder in the accident on Thursday evening.

Mr Atkinson pulled himself free from the wreckage and was looked after by a passing motorist until emergency services arrived.
