Beyoncé and Jay Z go vegan
Show all 12Beyoncé and Jay Z are going vegan this month.
The couple have decided to take part in the 22 Days Challenge, which aims to change people’s dietary and exercise habits by encouraging them to omit all animal-based products – including diary, honey, and eggs – from their diets.
The initiative is the brainchild of Jay Z’s close friend and exercise physiologist, Marco Borges.
Writing on his Life + Times blog, Jay Z posted: “On December 3, one day before my 44th birthday I will embark on a 22 Days challenge to go completely vegan, or as I prefer to call it, plant-based!! This all began a few months back when a good friend and vegan challenged me to embrace a 'plant-based breakfast' everyday. It was surprisingly easier on me than I thought…
“So you can call it a spiritual and physical cleanse. I will post my progress… Any professional vegans out there that have any great food spots please help out! Please ha. I don’t know what happens after Christmas. A semi-vegan, a full plant-based diet? Or just a spiritual and physical challenge? We’ll see...
“Best of luck and health! P.S. B is also joining me.”
Presumably, the pair aren’t set to give up their extensive collection of leather and fur belongings for the duration of the initiative, the wearing of which has angered vegan and animal rights protest groups, such as PETA, in the past.
But for now, they join the likes of Tobey Maguire, Lea Michele, Jared Leto and Jaoquin Phoenix in the growing number of celebrities who have pledged to lead a plant-based lifestyle.
