Ched Evans: Aunt of convicted rapist criticises footballer for not showing more remorse following prison sentence
Nina Evans said her nephew needed to apologise to his victim
The aunt of convicted rapist Ched Evans has criticised her nephew for not apologising to his victim.
Nina Evans, 56, was quoted by The Sun as saying: “He deserved to go down as he was found guilty - he did rape her.”
“Ched won’t grasp or listen. He won’t admit he’s done wrong. He’ll never show remorse.”
Footballer Evans, 25, spent two-and-a-half years behind bars as part of his five-year sentence for raping an inebriated girl in a hotel room in May 2011. He was released on 17 October and has now submitted an appeal to the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC).
However, Evans’ aunt, who works as an addiction counsellor reportedly said: “What about his poor victim? It’s a massive insult to her.”
The 22-year-old woman has been forced to leave her friends and family and take on a new identity after being named by social media users.
Evans family are offering a monetary reward in return for “information delivered that leads to the acquittal of Ched in the Court of Appeal”.
Meanwhile, a petition calling on Evans not to be reinstated into his position as striker at Sheffield United has reached over 155,000 signatures. The club has not yet made a decision on whether to take him back.
The Independent has contacted Evans' representatives, who are yet to respond.
