Chris Pine, who plays Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboots, will appear before a court in New Zealand next Monday facing a charge for drink-driving.

The 33-year-old American actor was reportedly stopped by police while he was behind the wheel of a vehicle in Methven, New Zealand, where he is currently shooting scenes for new movie Z For Zachariah, alongside Wolf of Wall Street actress Margot Robbie.

Local reports suggest that he was leaving a wrap party for the film when he was stopped and pulled over by officers.

“He has been charged with driving with excess blood alcohol and will appear in the Ashburton District Court on Monday 17 March,” New Zealand police confirmed in a statement.

“[He was] stopped during a routine drink-drive operation… Early on Saturday morning, March 1.”

“Given that the matter is now before the court, police will not be releasing any further information.”

Casey Crawford, the manager of the Blue Pub where the party was being held, told The Press that Pine and his girlfriend Iris Bjork Johannesdottir “seemed fine” before they left at 2.30am.

He was surprised to learn about the drink-driving charge, and said the pub had organised drivers to take guests at the 80-strong cast and crew event home.

Pines career has taken off since he first starred as the blue-eyed, young Captain Kirk to Zachary Quinto’s Spock in Star Trek in 2009.

After appearing in the critically acclaimed sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness in 2013, he also secured a starring role opposite Keira Knightley in Jack Ryan.

A representative for Pine is yet to comment on the arrest.
