Doreen Lawrence for M&S campaign: Mother of murdered teenager Stephen set to star with Emma Thompson and Annie Lennox
Baroness Lawrence of Clarendon has been shot by renowned fashion photographer Annie Leibovitz, reports suggest
According to rumours in The Sun today, Baroness Lawrence of Clarendon has been shot by renowned fashion photographer Annie Leibovitz .
However, a spokesperson for Marks & Spencer declined to comment, telling The Independent: “We don’t comment on rumours or any line-up speculation.”
The revamped high street retailer had a typically eclectic cast for its advertising campaign last year, including Olympic Gold winning boxer Nicola Adams and philanthropist Katie Piper.
Lawrence, the 61-year-old Labour peer, has campaigned tirelessly to bring the killers of her 18-year-old son to justice.
He was fatally stabbed in a racist attack in London in 1993.
Lawrence believed the Metropolitan Police’s subsequent investigation was flawed, involving elements of racism.
In 1999, the Macpherson Inquiry established the Met police was ‘institutionally racist.’
In May 2011, following a cold case review, it was announced two of the original suspects, Gary Dobson and David Norris were to stand trial for Stephen’s murder. In January 2012, both Dobson and Norris were found guilty of murder and were ordered to spend a minimum of 15 years in prison.
Earlier this week, new evidence emerged linking the officer accused of corruption in the Stephen Lawrence case to one of the prime suspects in the unsolved murder of Daniel Morgan, a private investigator found with an axe embedded in his skull in 1987.
Use of covert police listening devices suggested that a suspect in Morgan's murder knew John Davidson, a detective sergeant who is alleged to have confessed to a corrupt relationship with the father of David Norris, one of the racist gang who stabbed Lawrence to death.
Imran Khan, the Lawrence family's long-time lawyer, said the “shocking revelations... further undermine the already battered reputation of the Met. There is an urgent need for honesty and transparency”.
