Perhaps keen to avoid the mass wedding coverage favoured by some of their celebrity peers, Keira Knightley and musician James Righton married in a low-key ceremony in the south of France on Saturday.
Thankfully for the media, Aimé Navello, the local mayor who married them, was happy to talk about the ceremony, the famous couple and, ironically, just how secret the whole affair was.
He told news agency AFP that the service was for “about 15 people”, mainly Knightley’s family and Righton’s Klaxons’ bandmates. He also revealed that he had to look Knightley up on the internet.
“Normally I know most of the couples I marry ... but I haven’t heard of Keira, nor for that matter James,” he admitted to The Mail on Sunday.
“Keira was a charming bride, very modest and simple in her attitude, as was James. I got the impression that it was a very moving experience for both of them,” Mr Navello said.
He insisted, however, to The Sunday Times that secrecy was key: “They asked me to be as discreet as possible and not to tell anyone.”
We’d be love to hear what he’s like when he’s not being discreet.
