Nelson Mandela has been discharged from hospital after being treated for a lung infection and having gallstones removed.

The former South African President, 94, will receive continued medical care at home.

Mr Mandela was admitted to hospital on 8 December. His 18-day stay marked his longest time in hospital since leaving prison in 1990. Officials said he would receive "home-based high care" in Johannesburg until he fully recovers.
