An intruder who tried to break into Paris Hilton's home has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Nathan Lee Parada - who was wielding a knife when he attempted to get into her Los Angeles house - was found guilty of first degree residential burglary in April, and at the hearing yesterday (29.06.11) Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Kellogg also recommended he undergo mental health counselling.

Cy Waits, Paris' boyfriend at the time, held 31-year-old Parada at gunpoint until the police arrived in the early hours of August 24 2010.

While being interviewed by detectives Parada - who was reported missing by his mother just days before - confessed his motivation for the crime was to steal as much from Paris' property as he could and then escape to a desert island, a testimony from the case revealed.

Parada also said he had found out the 30-year-old star's address in the Hollywood Hills by buying a map showing where celebrities lived.

Shortly after the terrifying incident, Paris tweeted about it, admitting she was scared for her safety.

She wrote: "So scary, just got woken up to a guy trying to break into my house holding 2 big knifes. Cops are here arresting him (sic)"

It was not the only time last year Paris experienced an attempted intrusion - in October a man was arrested after he snuck past a security post at the exclusive Mulholland Estates gated community and banged on her door.
