Professor Green has been charged with drink-driving after police noticed his Mercedes, parked outside his home, had been involved in a crash last year.
The rapper – real name Stephen Manderson – called the police in November 2013 to report his stolen Rolex watch, which he claimed had been stolen on the London street he lives on.
However, when they arrived, officers saw that his Mercedes had collided with a van. As no injuries had been sustained from the alleged mugging, they instead arrested him on suspicion of drink driving.
Manderson was bailed and appeared at a south-east London police station where he was subsequently charged on Tuesday.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said in a statement: “Stephen Manderson, 30, of Tyrwhitt Road, has this evening been charged with drink-driving following an incident on November 3 in Tyrwhitt Road.
‘He will appear on bail at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on 20 March.’
Allegations that Manderson had perverted the course of justice will not be investigated any further.
