When Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s daughter was welcomed into the world on Saturday it seemed that everyone was asking a couple of questions. Firstly, "Why Blue Ivy?", and secondly, "Is that it?" - it's an unusual choice but certainly not the worst in the world of celebrity baby names.
Celebrities are renowned for suffering from a serious lapse of judgement when choosing names for their children. Maybe a few screws fall loose during the birth. Whatever the reason, strange baby names are a stubborn part of celebrity culture. Ranging from items of fruit to tongue twisters, names that rhyme to those that simply baffle, names that belong in a Disney film to those that appear far removed from reality, celebrities have got it covered.
When Gwyneth Paltrow named her daughter 'Apple' in 2003 she defended her decision explaining that "It sounded so sweet and it conjured such a lovely picture for me – you know, apples are so sweet and they're wholesome and it's biblical – and I just thought it sounded so lovely and... clean! And I just thought, 'Perfect!'" You can't argue with that reasoning.
In celebration of Carter Jnr's arrival, we pick the names that stand out in the celebrity baby world she's joined.
