Celebrity apology of the week came from Jason Alexander – aka Seinfeld's George Costanza.
Alexander appeared on Craig Ferguson's TV chatshow last week and referred to cricket, the sport played by Fred Trueman and Denis Lillee, as "really kind of a gay game... It's the pitch. It's the weirdest... It's not like a manly baseball pitch; it's a queer British gay pitch."
It didn't go down well with Alexander's gay friends and fans and, on Sunday, the actor published a lengthy and quite decent mea culpa explaining his rationale behind the lines (you can read it in full at ind.pn/Lmb8QG).
This proved enough to appease many in the LGBT community but not in the LBW one. Alexander tweeted yesterday: "The kind words being sent 4 my 'amends' tweet r overwhelming. Especially from the Gay Community. TY. The Cricket Community, however, hates me." Sounds like someone needs to send a cake to the Test Match Special studio, pronto!
