The Black Hawk Down actor admitted in the Huffington Post interview that he’d made the allegations up

Tom Sizemore made sure he capitalised on the publicity he’d gained by falsely claiming that his ex-girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley had an affair with former US President Bill Clinton by broadcasting a grovelling live apology with his manager Charles Lago by his side.

The Black Hawk Down actor admitted during the Huffington Post interview that he’d made the allegations captured on an audio tape (and published by Radar Online after the US website) while he was struggling to overcome his drug addiction.

"I’m not denying I said those things," he said. "It's an old video and they are the rantings of a guy, and it has been chronicled, who had a very severe drug problem.

"It’s old tape. I wasn’t willingly video taped but those were the kind of folks I was hanging around with back before I went to celebrity rehab and started to get straightened out.

"I wasn’t in the best of shape."

Lago said that he had received a call from a woman just before Christmas. She was allegedly trying to extort £12,500 from the actor in return from protecting the footage from leaking to the media, but later accepted £4,000.

Hurley was forced to address the spurious report claims on Twitter yesterday.

“Ludicrously silly stories about me & Bill Clinton,” she wrote. “Totally untrue. In the hands of my lawyers. Yawn.”

She also thanked fans for their support: “It’s been a tough couple of months in many ways- thanks to all my friends & family for your unwavering support & kindness.

“Thank you very much for your (mostly) very nice comments on what has been a pretty gruesome day x”
