Journalist and broadcaster Victoria Coren Mitchell has made poker history by becoming the first ever two-time winner of the European Poker Tour (EPT).

Coren Mitchell went all in to scoop the nearly £400,000 prize in the latest season of the tournament in Sanremo, Italy.

She beat 556 competitors to win a cash prize of £391,000 (476,100 euros) and a watch worth more than £4,000.

The win was all the more remarkable as she had fought back from eighth place in the tour during the week-long international tournament.

Coren Mitchell, host of BBC Four's quiz show 'Only Connect', had previously won an EPT event in London in 2006. She became the first woman to do so and scooped £500,000 prize money in the process.

Yesterday, she knocked out fellow competitor Jordan Westmorland and was left at the table with Italian Giacomo Fundaro.

Following her win, the 41-year-old, who is the daughter of the late broadcaster Alan Coren, and is married to comedian David Mitchell, tweeted to her 230,000 followers: "I WON! I bloody WON!!!!!! Sorry for that language on Easter Sunday. But I WON!!!!!! That is at least partly thanks to the amazing support, God bless everyone xxxxxxx."

Earlier, she had written on the social media site: "Heads up!! I knocked out lovely Jordan Westmorland, now it's just me and Giacomo Fundaro for the title HOW IS THIS HAPPENING??."

The Poker Stars website interviewed Coren Mitchell following her win: "I've long since lost the sense of what my day job is", she said.

"Am I a professional writer who plays poker as a hobby? Or a professional poker player who writes as a hobby?"
