Harry Butler, news editor and shorthand expert, died 29 October, aged 80. Championed the Teeline system of shorthand introduced in the 1960s. Worked for the Press Association 1947-78, and taught on the City University's postgraduate journalism course 1976-91. Author of several books about journalism and the Teeline system, including Teeline Self-taught (1975), Teeline Made Simple (1982) and The Story of British Shorthand from 1588 (1951).Reuse content
Sir Richard Dobson, businessman, died 24 October, aged 79. President, British American Tobacco 1976-79; deputy chairman 1962-68, vice- chairman 1968-70, chairman 1970- 76. Joined BAT in 1935, and was appointed to the board in 1955. Served as a Spitfire pilot in the Second World War. Briefly, 1976-77, chairman of British Leyland. Author of China Cycle (1946).
