Obituary: Alan Bloom
Alan Bloom, author, died 7 October, aged 62. A professor at Chicago University, his 1987 best- seller The Closing of the American Mind sparked a polemical debate over political correctness in academia, as he challenged the Sixties moral relativism of US colleges and called for a return of a more traditional curriculum.
