Rabbi David Lifshitz, Hebrew scholar, died New York 28 June, aged 86. Professor of Talmud at Rabbi Issac Elchanan Theological Seminary, Yeshiva University, 1944-93, and a noted Torah scholar. Former chief rabbi of Suvalk, in Poland, after serving as spiritual leader of Jews in the Polish army he emigrated to the US in 1941. Co-edited a volume of commentary on the Bible at the age of 12. President of Ezras Torah, the International Torah Relief Organisation.
