Prince George first birthday: Official picture released as heir turns one

The understated picture is in line with Prince William and Kate Middleton's efforts to appear as the royals of the people

A commemorative picture has been released of Britain’s newest royal, Prince George, ahead of his forthcoming first birthday.

In what is, in all fairness, a rather underwhelming snap of the mini monarch, we see George dressed in a full blue outfit stomping his way across gravelled surface and looking the spitting image of his father, Prince William.

The picture also shows George to be a confident walker and a rather big unit for someone so young.

Despite the millions of pounds and personal photographers the royals have at their dispense, the picture shows that both Kate and Wills are still keen to give off the image of being the people’s royals, with a photo that would not look too out of place in anyone’s family photo album.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambiridge do seem to have put a bit more thought into his outfit this time, deciding to dress him in some cool dungarees, rather than the cream laced gown he had to wear during his Christening in October.

George will turn one on Tuesday, on a day that will mark a pretty action-packed year for the youngster.

Despite having only been on this planet for 12 months, George has already travelled half way around the world to Australia and New Zealand, had more pictures taken of him than seems physically possible and even won the sought after “Celebrity Baby with the Best Hair” award.

Reports have said that George will celebrate his birthday at an understated event at Balmoral Castle, with the royals usually not liking to go big on parties for their youngest members who will forget them.
