The 5-minute Interview: David Seaman, Ex-footballer

'I enjoy fishing. My best ever catch was a 36lb carp'

The former England and Arsenal goalkeeper won three league titles, four FA Cups and a Cup Winners' Cup. He is involved with the Bobby Moore Fund, a bowel cancer charity, and this month will be hosting a golf tournament in the Algarve to raise money for the fund

If I weren't talking to you right now I'd be...

Practising for the tournament. There are plenty of celebrities and ex-footballers taking part.

A phrase I use far too often...

I'm always calling people "mate".

The most surprising thing that happened to me was...

Getting a second chance in football by signing for Peterborough after being released by Leeds.

I wish people would take more notice of...

Bowel cancer, I lost my mother-in-law to it 18 years ago, and it's why I got involved with the Bobby Moore Fund.

A common misperception of me is...

People think I'm laid back but there's a lot going on in my head.

I am not a politician but...

I would like to see the tax rate reduced.

I'm good at...

Golf and fishing. I usually do both at least once a week. The biggest fish I've ever caught was a 36lb carp.

The ideal night out is...

At the theatre in London, I particularly like musicals, followed by a nice meal.

You know me as a footballer but in another life I'd have been...

I would love to have been a golfer or any individual sportsman.

The best age to be is...

At the moment I'm 44 and life is great.

In a nutshell, my philosophy is this:

Never give up.
