Gray, 56, courted controversy with his 1992 bestseller 'Men are From Mars, Women Are From Venus'. His new book, 'Why Mars and Venus Collide' is available from Monday

If I were not talking to you right now I'd be...

Listening to music in my taxi home. I'm currently on a book tour in the US.

I wish people would take more notice of...

The rest of my books... I have written 16.

The most surprising thing that ever happened to me was...

Finding out the joy of being a grandparent. I really had no idea how satisfying it would be. My grandchild, who is one, brings so much joy and delight into our lives.

I am not a politician but if I were I...

Would pay teachers a lot more money and provide nutritional programmes for criminals and street people to help them to help their minds.

I'm good at...

Teaching people how to be healthy and how to cleanse their bodies as they choose. Not many people know this, but I have a wellness centre in northern California.

I'm very bad at...

Singing. I am a really terrible singer. I love to sing but my kids always give me a lot of stick.

My ideal night outwould be...

To take my wife out to a lovely dinner and then on to a musical. I really love musicals. At the moment my favourite is Jersey Boys.

In another life I'dhave been...

A monk.

In weak moments I...

Go to sleep

The best age to be is...

Well I can't tell you what it is like to be any older. My life is good now and I very much enjoy my three children and one grandchild. I have worked extremely hard throughout my life to achieve my success and I love my life at the moment.

In a nutshell, my philosophy is...

To remember that when there is distress that everything is really all right and that I am needed in this world and I have the support in place to help me to the next step.
