Two of Northern Ireland’s favourite sons faced off in a football match with a twist this week, when world number one golfer Rory McIlroy and star of Fifty Shades of Grey Jamie Dornan met in a one-on-one game to promote new football concept Circular Soccer.

In the match to endorse the game that was invented by Dornan’s medical professor father Jim, the two friends matched up in a competitive encounter at a sports centre in Belfast.

The new game was invented and developed by Dornan alongside other football coaches and marketing experts, and is focused on “naturally changing the way players think about space and time on the ball" by getting them to “make more decisions”.

The game has so far received a number of endorsements from high-profile people in the world of football and was trialled at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
