Samuel L Jackson’s testicular cancer awareness video is passionate and slightly menacing
Nothing urges a person to get behind a cause like the booming voice of Samuel L Jackson
Samuel L Jackson has joined the fight against testicular cancer, with an impassioned and, occasionally menacing, new video.
The two-minute clip urges men to visit a doctor to “get themselves checked out”.
“By not getting checked you could lose those balls,” he said. “Hell – you could lose your life! So boys, don’t be dumb. If you’ve really got balls, show them to your doctor.”
He goes onto outline some serious statistics relating to cancer.
“Fact: 30 per cent more men die of cancer than women. What? Get out of here! That’s right: 30 percent. 30 motherf***ing percent. Why? Because they don’t get themselves checked out early enough. They don’t want to hear or talk about it, because it ain’t the manly thing to do. They’re too macho.”
The actor has teamed up with innovative London-based fundraising platform MyGoodness.com to raise awareness for the cause. In the clip, he invites the public to take part in an online raffle, with prizes including lunch with him in London – when, he says mysteriously, he’ll “be fully clothed by then”.
Last year, he launched One For The Boys – a campaign which aims to educate men about cancer - after finding out that one of his friends has secretly dealt with the disease without telling anyone.
Perhaps this could be the start of a new career for Jackson in full-time charity-campaigning. There isn’t much his booming, powerful voice couldn’t persuade (frighten) you to do.
