Tom Cleverley threatened with a baseball bat and cosh as armed robbers steal £175,000 worth of property from Everton midfielder's home

Everton midfielder Tom Cleverley and his family were threatened by armed robbers who took off with £175,000 from his Manchester mansion.

Cleverley was at home with wife Georgina Dorsett (pictured together, above), a cast member of The Only Way is Essex, and two-year-old daughter Neveah Rose when two people broke into his house just after nightfall - one wielding a baseball bat and the other an extendable baton, or cosh.

The thieves demanded to know where the couple, who married in June, kept their luxury items, eventually stealing a £10,000 Hermes Birkin handbag, a £15,000 Cartier bracelet and a £50,000 Audemars Piguet watch.

They then sped off in one of the couple's Range Rovers, worth around £100,000.

A source told The Sun that the couple were unhurt but "shaken beyond belief".

"Tom and Georgina weren’t physically hurt but it was a horrific ordeal — especially as their little girl was with them. The only thing in their minds was protecting her," they said.

"This was a very, very nasty incident and the couple have been shaken beyond belief. They tend to keep a low profile, but it’s obvious they have been targeted due to their wealth."

The incident comes just six weeks after former Manchester United team-mate Sam Johnstone, the reserve goalkeeper, had his £40,000 Mercedes stolen from thieves who broke into his house and stole his keys.

Angel Di Maria's drastic loss of form last season was in part because the British record transfer suffered a similar break-in. Raiders attempted to enter his home while he ate dinner with his wife and young daughter back in January, just eight miles from where Cleverley lives, but fled when alarms sounded. Di Maria and wife Jorgelina Cardoso were too afraid to stay there and lived in a hotel thereafter.

The source added that Georgina now wants to move out of their £3.5million home.

"Georgina is properly spooked," they said. "She’s furious that a bunch of scumbags could do this to her family, but she’s taking no chances and wants out.

"It’s an exclusive area. Everyone will be reviewing their security after this nightmare."

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "Police were called following a report of a break-in.

"None of the victims were injured. An investigation is ongoing."
