Trevor Noah will conduct the most high-profile interview of his career when he sits down with President Obama for an “in-depth” discussion on Monday.

The Daily Show host will interview Mr Obama at the White House in something of an exit interview for the outgoing President.

Mr Obama was a guest on the satirical news show seven times when Jon Stewart was at the helm. Stewart, a longtime Democrat, was an ardent supporter of Mr Obama but took him to task in a memorable exchange for failing to deliver on the promises that got him elected.

The pair had a much warmer discussion in 2015 and it emerged they even met in private meetings at the Oval Office in 2011 and 2014.

Noah’s most recent interview with right-wing commentator Tomi Lahren divided opinion over whether someone who has expressed such contentious views should be given another platform.

“I do not believe that we are in a situation where we’re providing exposure for a person that has hundreds of millions of views on their videos,” Noah told The Breakfast Show on Wednesday.

“You’re not ‘providing a platform’ for this person. What you’re doing is you’re trying to get into their space and talk to them as a person, but more importantly, you’re trying to talk to the people that would never hear you in the first place.”
