Vladimir Putin hasn’t done much to ingratiate himself with the LGBT community, as proven by his latest ‘accolade’.

In 2013, a law was passed banning the “propaganda od non-traditional sexual relationships” to minors. Fines are given to those who break the legislation. The laws attracted international outcry and February’s Winter Olympic in Sochi were overrun with protests.

So it comes as no surprise that Grindr – a social networking app targeted at the gay and bi-sexual men – has named Vladimir Putin 2014 Enemy of the LGBT community.

Hillary Clinton was named Straight ally of the year, having publicly condemned Russia’s treatment of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people. She has consistently fought ardently for the gay community, in 2011 famously saying: “Gay rights are human rights”.

Grindr also predicted that Clinton will run for 2015 presidency – an issue she has remained quiet about.

Sam Smith was celebrated for having the Best Coming Out Story, having recently revealed that he told his family when he was just four-years-old.

"It didn't feel like a coming out," said Smith. "I came out when I was like 4 years old. My mum said she knew when I was like 3. I didn't have to actually properly come out."

The results were compiled through a poll with Grindr users from the US, UK and Australia.
