Watch Jon Snow sing in the advert for Channel 4's gay wedding musical: ‘Camper than a Christmas tree’
The veteran Channel 4 broadcaster celebrates the legislation of gay marriage
“It's camper than a chiffon Christmas tree,” sings one of the ensemble members of Channel 4’s Gay Wedding Musical! television show, in which Jon Snow turns singer to help celebrate the legalisation of gay marriage in England and Wales (scroll down to watch the video).
“It's camper than a chiffon Christmas tree,” sings one of the ensemble members of Channel 4’s Our Gay Wedding: The Musical! television show, in which Jon Snow turns singer to help celebrate the legalisation of gay marriage in England and Wales.
In what is surely today’s most entertaining video clip, Snow joins grooms Benjamin Till and Nathan Taylor, who are staging their entire wedding as a musical, including sung vows to a heartfelt duet from the couple’s mums.
“The introduction of civil partnerships was seen as a major step, but supporters believed that time had come for full and equal marriage,” enthusiastically sings Snow, gesticulating with clenched fists, as he stands outside the wedding venue at Alexandra Palace.
Snow has showcased his vocal skills before; he made a surprise appearance at an Amy Winehouse Foundation gig last September when he covered Blur’s Parklife.
Stephen Fry will introduce and commentate on the service, although it remains to be seen whether he too will join the merry singsong, but here’s to hoping.
Other performances, messages and appearances come from Olivia Newton John, The Feeling, Boy George, Will Young, Paul O'Grady and West End leading lady Hannah Waddingham. The congregation serves as the ensemble, “gayer than Glee”, as the preview clip says (or rather sings).
The show will air on Channel 4 tonight at 10pm, but be warned: the songs are very catchy indeed.
