It's not the kind of thing that happens to most people on an episode of Sun, Sex and Suspicious Parents, but then again, not everyone attracts the same amount of attention as talk show guru and DIY social worker Jeremy Kyle.

As reported last July, the presenter was filming in Magaluf forThe Kyle Files when he was pepper sprayed by a bouncer.

Now, with the show set to air this evening, ITV have released footage of the moment Kyle - the angry man so used to forcing his everyday guests into submission - admits to being "scared".

The video shows Kyle walking down a bustling street in Magaluf, a circle of security men shielding him from a crowd of camera-happy drinkers, when he starts coughing suddenly.

Kyle then says a sentence most of guests probably use when describing the experience of being on his talk show: "My eyes are stinging, I can’t see properly, my throat is burning and I feel disorientated - and scared".

His security team realise something is awry and lead Kyle and the camera crew to safety, placing the presenter in a car away from where the incident ocurred. Kyle, a man not used to using compliments, is clearly perturbed by having condiments thrown at him.

In the vehicle, Kyle, eyes are still red from the spray, says, "We came here to talk about a drinking culture; lots of kids seemingly having fun. You get pepper spray sprayed in your face, just walking down the street. Okay, is that the camera? Is that because we’re trying to find out what it’s really like or does that happen every night if you get into an argument?"

Well, as referenced by Kyle, that question was answered last summer when Romanian doorman Leon, 40, spoke to The Tab, saying he had sprayed the presenter because he felt the show was portraying Magaluf in a bad light.

"He was walking down the strip with a camera making it look s**t," he was quoted as saying. "I don't like that sort of publicity - it's not good. It's been happening for a while now and it's definitely not the way to promote a place.

"He ran away behind the corner," he continued. "I don't like the way he portrays the place. We're like family here - we clean everything and keep it that way. It's actually a nice place to live, which is why you find lots of families here with their kids being raised here."

Not that such a fiasco will blunt Kyle's determination: he recently refused to rule out forging a future political career.

The Kyle Files is on ITV tonight at 7.30pm.
