Wayne Rooney throws ice bucket on wife Coleen Rooney’s head during ALS challenge

The television personality and product endorser was not badly hurt during the incident

Perhaps for Wayne Rooney the formula for the ALS ice bucket challenge was becoming a little stale.

With so many famous names already having taken part in the campaign, which raises money for charity, how to make his involvement really stand out?

So, he perhaps pondered, “Why don’t I aggressively drop the bucket on my wife’s head? That’s not been done before.”

In reality, the film of the Rooney throwing icy water over wife Coleen is likely to be less contrived that that – but he really does drop the bucket on her head afterwards, to which she understandably screams. It also hurt apparently.

Rooney – who was nominated by Shaun Wright-Phillips – put forward Piers Morgan and Sheree Murphy.

The challenge has fast gathered momentum over the past few weeks, with a mix of likely (Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and David Beckham) and unlikely names (Bill Gates, Anna Wintour and George Bush) joining the charity campaign.
