Harry Alexander, Lord Benson, of Itchenor, West Sussex, the chartered accountant and former adviser to the Governor of the Bank of England, left estate valued at pounds 2,546,679 net. He left pounds 15,000 to the Chartered Accountants Trust for Education and Research.

Mr Evelyn Mansfield King, of Romsey, Hampshire, Conservative MP for South Dorset 1964-79 and Labour MP for Penryn and Falmouth 1945-50, left estate valued at pounds 180,416 net.

Sir William Rendell, of London SW1, the first General Manager of the Commonwealth Development Corporation, 1953-73, left estate valued at pounds 211,242 net.

Mr Alexander Hope Birch, of Clevedon, Avon, former Deputy High Commissioner in Australia, left estate valued at pounds 244,831 net. He left his entire estate equally between the Institute of Cancer Research, Distressed Gentlefolks Aid Association and the Diplomatic Service Welfare Fund.

Rosemary Hilbery, of Bordon, Hampshire, left estate valued at pounds 82,360 net. She left pounds 1,000 and half the residue to personal legatees and half the residue to the Labour Party.
