Laura Miranda, Lady Grimond, of London W4 and Kirkwall, Orkney, widow of Lord Grimond, left estate valued at pounds 740,561 net. She left pounds 1,000 each to the Save the Children Fund, Orkney Branch, and the NSPCC, and pounds 500 each to the Orkney Heritage Society, Orkney SLD Party, Shetland SLD Party, and the SLD Party Women's Organisation.

Sir Jack Leslie Rampton, of Tonbridge, Kent, Permanent Under-Secretary of State at the Department of Energy 1974-80, left estate valued at pounds 428,881 net. He left pounds 500 to the British Australia Society and pounds 250 to the War Memorial Fund of Tonbridge School.

Professor Monica Mary Cole, of London SW19, Professor of Geography at Bedford College, London 1964-87, left estate valued at pounds 654,035 net. She left pounds 10,000 and paintings of geographical interest to the Royal Geographical Society, her paintings of botanical interest to the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew Foundation, and pounds 10,000 to provide a research travel grant for a young woman, with the proviso that she publish the results of her research.

Mr William Maurice Farrer, of Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria, left estate valued at pounds 2,713,815 net.

Mr Donald James Goodenough, of Orpington, Kent, left estate valued at pounds 1,523,724 net.

Mr Dudley Aubrey Ireland, of Shrewsbury, Shropshire, left estate valued at pounds 1,067,689 net.

Mrs Pauline Cooke, of Surbiton, Surrey, left estate valued at pounds 1,228,929 net. After personal bequests of pounds 150,000, she left pounds 20,000 to Barnardo's; pounds 5,000 each to Christ Church, Esher, the British Sailor's Society and Children's Society; three-fifths of the residue to the Cancer Research Campaign, and the rest to the British Heart Foundation.
