Pressing issue in Croatia

The first new private Croatian daily in 40 years hit newsstands across the country. The first edition of Jutarnji List (Morning Herald) ran to 200,000 copies, almost all of which had sold out by midday. All three national television channels are state-owned and widely regarded as a mouthpiece for President Franjo Tudjman.
