Schools to get security cameras
The Government yesterday handed out pounds 17m for security cameras in schools, community centres and high streets. Schools - a top priority after the Dunblane massacre and the fatal stabbing last December of London headmaster Philip Lawrence - feature prominently. However, St George's in Maida Vale, where Mr Lawrence was attacked, was not awarded a grant.
The awards were made under the Government's second national CCTV competition, which attracted nearly 800 bidders from local authorities, community groups, schools and industrial estates, of which around 250 were successful.
