Less than a month ago Baxters sent ordinary flu' vaccine to 18 outlets in Europe which was contaminated with live bird flu virus. Maybe they have finally suceeded in passing on the virus in a way that will start a pandemic by placing the live virus in vacines for children.

These were only trials too.....and we only have Baxters word that the contaminated batches were research materials.

You have to ask the question....."Why would they want to contaminate research material with live bird flu?"All the experts agree that the one surefire way to allow H5N1 to mutate into an airborne virus is by using live hosts and mixing it with ordinary flu vacine.

I am not hysterical, just aware.

There are plenty of articles within the mainstream (and other) media about the Polish "volunteers" who were givena strain of avian flu that died, and now many of those "doctors"/scientists involded are being tried for homicide. The Russian/Eastern European people are balking at taking most vaccines now due to the "gross negligence" (I'm being kind) of Baxter and other Big Pharma companies. My wife and I just had a little boy less than two months ago, and I'll be damned if I allow him to be vaccinated with any of that "stuff". I got enough chemicals/antigens pushed into my system when I was in the military and in the Gulf War, and I will die before I knowingly allow these bastards to poison my children any more!

This is just evolution. Those the virus kills will know nothing once they are dead. Yet they will reduce the massive over-population crisis. If I die why should I worry? I won't be missed except by a few who'll battle on regardless to their own invitable demise. This obsession with avoiding death is unnatural and unhealthy. Surely more efforts should be put into enjoying our finite lives than worrying about the universal expiry date? Taking simple precautions like having a few binliners is more sensible than stocking up like it'll be the end of the world. Come the day you'll have immunity or you won't; just roll the dice.

I agree, in a way, with living_fossil in that yes, nature does have her way of correcting herself and in this case it's us humans. Because of overpopulation and our ability to corrupt our environment nature will take matters into her own hands and depopulate us so that the ecosystem can become less polluted. However, because it takes nature a very long time (hundreds, thousands, and even millions of years) to get anything accomplished I do believe there may be human forces at work bent on depopulating the planet for their own greedy agenda. With a less populated, one world government it's easier to control the masses and achieve more power for themselves; ever hear of the Bilderberg Group? ever wonder what their up to and why Baxter was able to ship out "vaccines" that contained regular flu and H5N1 virus to 18 different countries, and then not even own up completely to what they did? Some things make you go hmmm.. Yes we will all die one day but I would like to go when God says it's time for me to die, not when some power greedy jerk decides it. God help us all in America and around the world.

More cases are reported in children as opposed to adult could be attributed to the less vigilance & less awarnessness among Egyption children, who regularaly come into contct with birds, & who take no measure to take jabs or disinfect when the diesase is contracted.

After all, this is the parents' responsibility & ultimately the government who should meaures into place to takle such eventuality & therefore, the government finds itself in the fame soley takes the blame for such avoidable event.

Please do not go into fear - however don't go into denial either. Last time they blew it out of proportions in the news - yet they did not succeed, and it went away as fast as it got here.

It is a proven microbiological proncipal: the more passages through different species (eggs, mice,rats, guinea oigs, hamsters, etc., the less infective for the original host.
I was doing such experiments as a college student as a learning model in the early 1950s. It is the principal that all vaccines are based upon.

We have been pumping so much CO2 in the atmosphere, that we actually are doing a huge favour to any pathogen lurking in some dirty soil or in the bloodstream of a bird.

We are in the proces of boosting evolution by rising the CO2 to levels that are typical of eras with major biological activity. Raise global temperatures a bit, and we are in for wave after wave with bacteria and virusses wiping out entire populations.

Some will find that a good thing; fighting over-population is to some a healthy cause.

I'd rather avoid the insanity that will necessarily accompany such dramatic events.

Bird flu has killed hardly any people so far in comparison to other diseases, and how many years is it now that we have been hearing about it? To talk about 11 people in Egypt being infected and this being a possible early sign of a pandemic is just absurd. Does the author know the definition of pandemic? Also, the last sentence is a giveaway as to the author's lack of thought about what he is actually writing. 5% of the entire world's population is less than 350 million. Are we seriously expected to believe the entire world's population is at risk from something that has over the past few years killed only a handful of people worldwide? Can the journalists who write this nonsense please wake up and get in the real world and write about something important?

I concur. It is much more likely that HIV weakend folks will combine avian influenza with TB in Africa to produce a mass killer virus. This is not given a fraction of the publicity yet presents a much greater risk. Indeed it could kill 95% of the worlds population, but perhaps denial is the best option when thinking about that?

TB is caused by a bacterium, not a virus. Talking up the dangers ahead is all very well, but let's not start spouting mumbo-jumbo pseudoscience. Bacteria do not and cannot "combine with" viruses to produce "superviruses". I worry about H5N1 too but this is patent nonsense!

Ooohh! The original article pointed out that most of the recent infections were in children aged under three years old, and living in the third world! So, no surprise there. Best defence against bird flu is not a vaccine, its helping your own body to restore its own immune system. That means take steps to improve your own health by doing things like eating the right amounts of proper food, sleeping enough, exercising enough, avoiding poisons etc etc etc. Your mother probably could tell you. Well mine could. The folks in the third world are a bit stuffed though.. less opportunities for better living if you are poor.

I wish journalists would learn the meaning of 'epicentre'. The epicentre of an earthquake is that point on the earth's surface that is directly above the quake ( 'epi' means 'on top of'). I have even come across a journalist referring to the 'epicentre' at Hiroshima; the correct term is, of course 'hypocentre', which is the point on the ground below the explosion (which was about 2000 feet above ground.

I am reminded of the fact that Henry Kissinger is very much active, the man that first advocated a major cull of the worlds population "by force if need be", this whole thing stinks... and I didn't even mention the neo-cons connections to the company that owns Tamilflu either... oops

It's not "code named" H5N1 -- that's a scientific designation for the virus.
As in, Hemagluttinin type 5 (H5), Neuraminidase Type 1 (N1), thus H5N1.

Most of the flu circulation (aka seasonal flu) is H3N2, and that's what most people have antibodies present in their body to protect against. When you get vaccinated, or suffer the flu, your immune system produces antibodies to guard against future infections.
The problem with flu is that is mutates so quickly that one vaccine isn't enough -- you have to get the new vaccine each year to guard against the new flu types.

This article is making a salacious error by saying the flu is code named like some kind of government secret or a weapon. Seriously. I won't bother commenting on the hysteria-inducing writing style...
The content is accurate but the article is clearly written with the tone of "Panic!".

The rising pandemic of bird flu affecting children under the age of 3 (only) sounds like the last plague of Egypt from the old testament, killing the first-born male in every household. The Israelites were protected from this by applying the blood of a lamb using a hyssop branch.
