More strikes on London Underground appeared inevitable last night after members of the RMT rail union voted - by 1,735 votes to 969 - in favour of industrial action.

The RMT executive meets today to decide on what action to take. It is likely to be for 24-hour or 48-hour strikes, for which seven days' notice must be given. The train drivers' union Aslef has accepted a 3 per cent offer from London Underground, but RMT is seeking 6 per cent
