Shoppers fled as an explosion ripped through Sainsbury's in Portfield, Chichester, West Sussex. More than 150 firefighters fought the blaze but there were no reports of any injuries. There were fears that fire could spread to nearby petrol pumps, and the A27 and A286 roads were closed.

A spokesman for Sainsbury's said the explosion occurred in a freezer storeroom but it was too early to say what caused it.
