The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Sir Patrick Mayhew, and the new Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dick Spring, agreed in Dublin to hold the next meeting of the Anglo-Irish conference early next month. They appear to have agreed to aim for an early resumption of the Northern Ireland talks which came to an unsuccessful halt in November.
