An anonymous telephone bidder paid pounds 48,400 for John Lennon's hand-written lyrics to A Day in the Life, a song on the album Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, at Sotheby's, more than double the estimate and a record price for a Beatles lyric. Another anonymous buyer paid pounds 45,100, three times the estimate, for Paul McCartney's lyrics to She's Leaving Home.
