A bone-marrow donor for Rhys Daniels, the two-year-old with a rare genetic disorder, has been selected by United Bristol Healthcare Trust. Rhys, from Epping, Essex, has Batten's disease; the life- saving operation will start within the next 10 days.

His parents were involved in a legal wrangle with Virginia Bottomley, the Secretary of State for Health, over the closure of the Westminster Children's Hospital, London, where Rhys was scheduled to have his transplant. He will be the first in the world with the disease to be given a transplant.
