BR fined over trip offer

British Rail was fined pounds 200 for misleading passengers on the price of train fares to Belgium. Horseferry Road magistrates were told it was the first prosecution of its kind against BR, which had falsely advertised special offer pounds 40 trips to any destination in Belgium. A traffic warden from Essex tried to take up the offer, only to find that the cut- price fares were only available on five-day returns. BR pleaded guilty.
