It could be a comedic scene from Only Fools And Horses if it wasn't such a dangerous, real-life event.

British Transport Police have released bizarre CCTV footage of a yellow Reliant Robin driving through a level crossing while the barriers are up, yet strangely reversing through the barriers after they were closed to allow a train to pass. Luckily, a member of the public runs out to lift the barrier to allow the car to drive back out of harm's way.

Police are now calling for help from the public to identify the driver of the car who they say, "risked their lives, and the lives of others, by driving through level crossing barriers and onto the railway line in Nottinghamshire."

The incident took place just before 12:30am on Sunday 21 June at the Pinxton Level Crossing in Pinxton near Kirkby in Ashfield.

Inspector Anton Menzies said: “We have launched an investigation into this incident and are now working to identify the driver of this distinctive vehicle. I am certain that someone will recognise it, and know its driver and I would ask them to come forward.

Both of the barriers had to be fixed at a cost of between £6,000 and £15,000, according to the BTP.
