CHANNEL ferry operators may be forced to carry extra medical equipment as a result of an incident highlighted in the Independent on Sunday, writes Christian Wolmar.

Dr Julie Hall treated a fellow passenger on a Stena Sealink ferry between Cherbourg and Southampton, but complained about lack of safety plans. The chief medical adviser of the Department of Transport is recommending that extra equipment be carried on ships.
