10 held in counter-terrorism raids

Ten suspects have been arrested by counter-terrorism officers in a series of raids across the North West of England, police said tonight.

Officers from the North West Counter-Terrorism Unit supported by Merseyside Police, Greater Manchester Police and Lancashire Constabulary carried out a series of raids in the past hour.

A number of addresses across the North West are being searched by officers.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We are currently not in a position to confirm these addresses or any other further information regarding this operation.

"Further details will be released as they become available this evening."

It is believed raids at several properties including addresses in Cheetham Hill, Manchester, and at Liverpool John Moores University.
