Drink-driver Peter Latham was banned from driving, walked from the court, got in his car and drove off in one of history's quickest legal breaches.

But CCTV captured the 25-year-old ignoring his driving ban, which was implemented in Liverpool on Wednesday.

And now he is behind bars after Merseyside Police used the astonishing footage to prosecute him.

Latham, of Stuart Road North, Liverpool, was banned for 12 months at Wednesday's court hearing after admitting drink-driving and using a mobile phone.

Later that day and with the CCTV in their possession, police arrested Latham.

Yesterday, he was hauled before a judge at the city's Community Justice Centre.

Latham, who said he works as a protection officer in Iraq, admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance.

Judge Ian Lomax jailed him for 10 weeks and said: "This is the most blatant breach I have seen in a long time."

Victoria Marquis, defending, said Latham thought the ban kicked in only when he handed in his driving licence.
