'Boy had gun' near school

A teenage boy has been arrested after a "firearm incident" outside a secondary school. He was detained by armed police at the school in Wickford, Essex.
Essex Police said they were called shortly after 2.30pm yesterday following reports that a boy had a weapon outside The Bromfords School. A spokesman added: "Officers liaised with school staff and armed colleagues arrested a 14-year-old boy from the Basildon area."
It was not clear if the boy was a pupil. Nobody was reported injured.
