A British International School has been evacuated in Hungary after receiving a bomb threat.

Pupils at the private British International School, Budapest, which educates around 700 children of a number of nationalities aged between three and 18 using the British syllabus, were escorted from the building by Hungarian Special Forces and sniffer dogs.

The school confirmed at around 8.30am staff "recieved a phone call informing of a bomb threat."

A spokesperson for Nord Anglia Education, which runs the international school, told The Independent that police were information and the school was "immediately evacuated".

The Foreign Office confirmed to The Independent a “security alert” took place at the school this morning. Their spokesperson added: “The embassy is in contact with the school and local police.”

The Budapest Police Headquarters said officers arrived at the school at around 8.44am following the alleged bomb threat and control of the area was transferred to the city’s bomb squad.

"The fire alarm went off and everybody had to leave the building and wait at the sport field,” a pupil of the school told Hungarian website News.hu.

"Fifteen to 20 minutes later we were told someone called the school and told them about a possible bomb in the building.”

Pupils were escorted from the school grounds to a museum across the road by TEK officers (Hungary’s special forces). None of the pupils were hurt and all have been accounted for.

"The welfare of our students and staff is our utmost priority. All threats to our school are taken very seriously. The police have taken charge of the situation and are currently on site investigating the threat," the school added in a statement.

A search of the school has not revealed anything suspicious, the Mirror reported.
