Burglar steals from 90-year-old's Alzheimer's sufferer's bedroom while she sleeps

CCTV footage has emerged of a burglar stealing from an elderly woman suffering from Alzheimer’s as she lies in bed.

Police said the 90-year-old woman saw a man standing outside her bedroom window in Blackbrook Lane in Bromley, southeast London, at around 6.30pm on 6 March.

The man, thought to be aged in his mid to late 30s or early 40s, then forced the window open and climbed inside, the Met said in a statement.

Footage shows him rummaging through the victim’s belongings on her dressing table

Police said the victim interrupted him to ask what he was doing. He replied: “I am looking for jewellery,” before continuing his search for valuables on her bedside table, they added.

He went into the living room and looked around before re-entering the bedroom.

He then patted the victim on the shoulder and fled, taking with him some jewellery.

Detective Constable Dean Roberts of Bromley police, said: “This incident has left the victim absolutely terrified and her family devastated. She has been targeted in a place where she has every right to feel at her most safe and comfortable.

“The CCTV footage is very clear. Do you recognise the man captured in these images?

“We also believe a torch light was shone through the window while the man was inside, suggesting there may have been an accomplice who was not caught on camera. Did you see two people acting suspiciously in the area?

“I would urge anyone with information to call us as soon as possible.”
