A former police officer is under arrest on suspicion of the murder of his wife, a hairdresser who was stabbed to death in her salon yesterday.

The victim, who has been named locally as Natalie Esack, died following the attack at Esack Hair and Beauty in Ashford, Kent.

Police discovered the seriously injured woman, who was in her 30s, at 9.40am and paramedics fought in vain to save her throughout the morning. An hour later, officers arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of murder. They said that he was known to the victim.

It is understood that the suspect is the victim's husband Ivan Esack, a former officer with Kent Police who now works as a football agent.

The couple are believed to have been married for eight years but are estranged. They are not thought to have children.
