Former royal aide in court on absconding charge
A former royal aide who was jailed for stabbing her boyfriend to death will appear in court today accused of absconding from an open prison.
Jane Andrews, 43, triggered a large-scale search after she walked out from East Sutton Park open prison near Maidstone last November.
The former dresser to the Duchess of York was returned to custody more than two days later after being found at a Premier Inn hotel near Maidstone, a few miles from East Sutton Park.
She was since remanded at HMP Holloway in north London and will appear at Maidstone Magistrates' Court today to answer a charge of absconding.
Kent Police said the decision to take further action against her was jointly made by the force and prosecutors from the Crown Prosecution Service.
Andrews was jailed for life after being convicted of murdering wealthy businessman Tom Cressman in 2001 when he refused to marry her.
She was ordered to serve a minimum of 12 years in jail after a jury at the Old Bailey accepted the prosecution case that she killed Mr Cressman at the home they shared in Fulham, south-west London.
She was only eight-and-a-half years into her sentence when she was moved to East Sutton Park and was judged to be eligible for parole in 2012.
