Four people were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was shot outside a nightclub, police said today.
Officers were called to the Traffik nightclub on Cheapside, Luton just after 2am today to reports of a man being shot.
A man in his 20s was in a critical condition in the Luton and Dunstable Hospital, police said.
A spokeswoman said two 24-year-old men, a 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were all arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and were being held at Luton Police Station.
The spokeswoman said Cheapside was likely to remain cordoned off for most of the day while scenes of crime officers and the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit investigated.
Detective Chief Inspector Mick Hanlon, said: "While the actual threat caused by gun crime is very small and does not affect the vast majority of law abiding people within Bedfordshire, we are not complacent about the dangers posed by these weapons and we will continue to investigate each and every incident professionally and thoroughly.
"I would urge anyone who has information about this incident or about those people who carry or have access to illegal weapons to have the courage to come forward and speak to the police or use the anonymous Crimestoppers number.
"With the help of the public we can rid our county of these weapons and reduce the small number of people affected by gun crime still further."Reuse content
