Four men were left seriously injured after being attacked as they took part in a friendly snowball fight.

The men suffered head injuries and broken bones after a group of Asian males got out of a car and assaulted them with weapons.

They had been involved in a snowball fight with another group of younger Asian males shortly before the incident happened, Strathclyde Police said.

Detectives said they were treating the attack as a "racial incident" and appealed for help in tracing those responsible.

The men, all aged 20, were attacked in Kenmure Street in the Pollokshields area of Glasgow around 8.30pm last night.

They were taken to the city's Victoria Infirmary, where three of them remained in a "serious but stable" condition today.

The fourth man was released after treatment.

Detective Sergeant Diane Caldwell of Cathcart CID said: "What started out as a friendly snowball fight turned nasty and we are treating this as a racial incident against the four white males involved.

"I would appeal to anyone who saw the snowball fight, heard any exchange or saw the males either arriving or leaving the scene to come forward."

The Asian males, who got out of a Toyota-style car before attacking the men, are believed to be aged in their 20s.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the CID at Cathcart police station.
